Vaping is one of the hottest trends today. There are many types of products and flavors available for the e-cigarette user. The heart of the e-cigarette holds the e-liquid. This is the cartridge where the flavor of the e-cigarette is stored.

There are only a few basic ingredients that e-liquids are composed of. These ingredients include a base, the flavor, and if included any nicotine. The base of an e-liquid is made up of propylene glycol (PG) and vegetable glycerin (VG). Propylene glycol is a liquid that is commonly used as a flavor carrier in certain foods, an ingredient in food coloring, and an additive to medicines. Vegetable glycerin is a thick, vegetable-based liquid. Vegetable glycerin’s extremely thick nature is too thick to be used as a base alone. Vegetable glycerin is then mixed with propylene glycol to create a smooth base.

Nicotine levels in e-cigarettes can range from 0mg up to 24mg. This depends on the amount in the e-liquid. Flavors for the e-liquid are created by adding food grade natural, or artificial flavorings. The flavor in brands can be different due to manufacturing techniques. It is wise for vape users to buy new flavors in small batches to ensure you don’t end up with large quantities of e-liquids you may not like. Flavors can range from fruit-flavored such as strawberry to savory-flavored such as double fudge brownies. For a traditional flavor e-liquids also come in tobacco or menthol. For a slight more kick try a caffeinated e-cigarette. According to Vape Magazine the three main ingredients in addition to the base in a caffeinated e-cigarette are ginseng, taurine, and guarana. The levels of caffeine can vary depending on the type of e-cigarettes. In general each e-cigarette has about two milligrams of caffeine.

It is best to store e-liquids in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Many brands are sold in colored bottles to protect the e-liquids. Looking at the expiration date and the manufacture date on a bottle can help ensure that the product you purchase is fresh and new. When the vapor in your e-cigarette is less than normal you may need to refill your e-liquid. Also, it’s best to change the whole e-liquid cartridge when changing flavors to avoid any carry-over tastes from the prior flavor.

Although there is a wide variety of ready-to-use e-liquids, some vape users prefer to make their own. When making your own e-liquids for best results it’s important to buy quality products. Also, consider having an expert train you before you try it on your own. The base ingredients propylene glycol and vegetable glycerin are not considered toxic. The nicotine can be. Use caution when adding nicotine to your e-liquid.
